Vajra Sheiling solitary retreat hut

The sheiling is available on a weekly basis running from Friday to Friday. One or two weeks at a time can be booked. Longer stays are sometimes possible at quiet times of the year for those who have done a solitary retreat before.

Location - The Sheiling is located within Dhanakosa's grounds, about 300 yards from the main building and about 200 feet above the centre overlooking the loch. Don't worry, we can take your luggage up for you using our quad bike.

Factilities in the hut - The sheiling has a shower, toilet and cooking facilities. There is a desk for writing and a small shrine; candles and incense are provided. There is space for yoga practice - we provide a yoga mat, belt and blocks.

Food- At the start of the week one of the community will show you the retreat centre food store where you can collect all the fresh food you need for the week; the sheiling is stocked with dried foods such as pasta, rice etc. If there's anything you've forgotten you can help yourself from the food store during the week or leave a message in the communication bin (see below).

What to bring - We provide food, bedding, meditation cushions and shrine accessories (candles, incense etc.). You will need to bring your own towel and toiletries and anything else you need that isn't provided.

Communication during solitary retreat - We have a communication system which allows you to ask us for things you've forgotten without having to talk to anyone. This is done by putting a note in a bin about 100 yards from the sheiling and lowering a flag which can be seen from the community house. We can also use this system to pass any urgent messages on to you during your retreat.

Arrival and leaving times - Please let us know when you will be arriving so that we can arrange for someone to take your luggage up. Please try to arrive no later than 18:30 – you will find details of how to get here in the booking confirmation letter and our contact info printout. Please try to leave by 11:00 on the last day especially if you are travelling by public transport as this will be the best time to get a lift into Stirling from people leaving the retreat centre.

Suggested donations - Waged £280, Low wage £210, Unwaged £140
