Mindfulness and the Path to Freedom
Siddhimala became involved with the Triratna Buddhist Community in 1992 and moved into a community in London before going to live and work at Taraloka retreat Centre in 1994 for 3.5yrs and at Dhanakosa in 2014 for 4 years. She was ordained in 2002 and is inspired by the Bodhisattva ideal - a life in the service of a higher purpose.
She trained to teach Tibetan Yoga (Kum Nye) from 2008-11, which she finds a very helpful addition to the practice of mindfulness and meditation. She enjoys sharing her passions of Meditation, Dharma, walking, kayaking, music and the dance of countryside and wildlife.
Sraddhadharani first began practising Buddhism in Manchester in the late '90's. A desire to explore her practise more deeply away from the distractions and demands of busy urban life lead to her moving to the Scottish Borders, where she has lived for the last 16 years with her partner and various dogs and cats. Her interest in and commitment to Buddhism continued to develop and thrive, helped by the beauty and peace of the surrounding landscape, as well as the many opportunities available within the Triratna Buddhist Community and she was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2013. She has a particular interest in meditation and has been co-facilitating a Meditation Group in her local village hall for the last 8 years. She also works as a dog walker and massage therapist and enjoys using ritual and ceremony as a way of bringing people together around shared values and experiences.
Open to all, these retreats are suitable for both beginners and those with more experience, but no previous experience is assumed. All these retreats include introductory meditation teaching and periods of silence.
Far from just a means of relaxation, the Buddha’s teaching of mindfulness can bring new levels of meaning, direction and joy to our lives. We will be exploring some of the most relevant teachings for modern life, and how we can directly put them into practice as well as doing some gentle Qi Gong movements to help us inhabit our bodies more fully.
