About Dhanakosa
The vision of Dhanakosa is to support the practice of the Buddha’s teachings by providing retreats that encompass both traditional and contemporary approaches to Buddhist practice.
Dhanakosa works under the auspices of the Triratna Buddhist Order. See about triratna for more information.
History of Dhanakosa
Formerly a hotel and gourmet restaurant, Dhanakosa (known historically as Leathad na Crìche, 'slope of the boundary' anglicised as Ledcreich - an old march wall on the eastern side of the property being the eponymous boundary) was acquired by the Glasgow Buddhist centre by lease hold in 1992. We began holding retreats in September of that same year. In 2002, the Dhanakosa Trust was founded and was able to buy the property with the support of a loan from Triodos Bank.
We are a registered Scottish charity (no. SCO32776) and the day-to-day running of the centre is undertaken by a resident team overseen by a board of trustees.
Since its first retreat in 1992, Dhanakosa has adhered to a payment by donation financial model (see dana economy for more information). We continue to be secure and able to invest in the continued improvement of our facilities and teaching, for all to enjoy, for many years to come.
Voices of Dhanakosa
To celebrate 25 years of Dhanakosa, we compiled the story of Dhanakosa as told by some of those who helped in it's creation over the years (complete with a timeline).
