The fire of awakening
Amoghavira first encountered Buddhism in 1979 while struggling through a mathematics degree at Glasgow University. Ordained into the Western Buddhist Order in 1982 he then started working at the Glasgow Buddhist Centre.
He worked for 2 years at the Sydney Buddhist Centre in Australia from 1988, and on his way back to Britain in 1990, spent 3 months in Kathmandu helping run meditation and Buddhism course there. Falling in love with Nepal, he’s been a regular visitor there ever since.
In 1996, he moved to Dhanakosa to help with retreat leading here, which he’s been doing ever since. He loves being in the mountains and this has led to a passion for landscape photography and he now lives in the village of Callander, about 15 miles from Dhanakosa.
For several years, Balajit has been regularly leading retreats at the Vajraloka Buddhist Retreat Centre in North Wales. He also runs meditation workshops and events across the Uk and in Ireland. His teaching places particular emphasis on how developing a felt connection with the ground and body awareness, support the deepening of meditation and mindfulness.
He also focuses on exposing and loosening assumptions and views we hold that limit us in our everyday lives – with a range of exercises and techniques to help make this happen.
Ginny started practicing yoga in 1995, teaching in 1999 and now offers a diverse range of classes mainly in London, encouraging students to develop their own personal practice.
Her focus is on body awareness through Indian yogic traditions of Asana, Pranayama and relaxation practices, integrating this with Chinese yogic traditions of Qi, meridians & there pertaining organs and the five elements.
She infuses all practices with fun, taking us into the unexplored field of body, mind & emotions, to evoke potential for personal growth & transformation of ourselves.

An ideal first regulars retreat. These retreats take successful themes from our introductory programme, and gently introduce more silence, meditation, and a stronger Buddhist context through teachings and Buddhist ritual (including 7-fold puja).
Open to anyone who has done an introductory retreat, or has been attending a local centre, and looking to take their practice a bit deeper.
The 3 lakshanas (Impermanence, Unsatisfactoriness and Insubstantiality) are a fundamental expression of the Buddha’s vision of Reality. In this teaching, the Buddha is pointing to the transformative effect of acknowledging, allowing, and opening to the ways in which we experience these 3 aspects of our lives and gives us practical advice on how to stay firmly on the path of practice and awakening.
This retreat will explore this teaching with talks, discussion, reflection, meditation and bodywork (led by experienced yoga teacher Ginny Stuart) - exploring ways to awaken to the truth of reality, right here, right now. We will also incorporate ritual and devotion to aid in the transformation in the fires of our experience.
