Nayaka - Nayaka came to Dhanakosa in 1996 after learning to meditate with the Newcastle Buddhist Centre. Drawn by the mountains, he quickly felt at home here and became increasingly involved in the running of the centre. He became part of the management team in 1999, was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order in 2001 and became centre director in 2006. He has a background in earth and life sciences, has a long standing interest in natural history and a love of the wilderness.
Nayaka lives at Dhanakosa with Dharmavasini and their 2 children.
Moksadhi first came across Buddhism in Nepal and encountered Triratna at the Cambridge Buddhist Centre in 2013. After participating in a 5 month residential Dharma LIfe course at Adhisthana in 2016, she moved to London to immerse herself in Buddhist practice, living in community and working for Lama's Pyjamas charity shop. She completed her ordination training at the London Buddhist Centre, getting ordained at Akashavana in 2019. Moksadhi has a long standing love of the wilds of Scotland and has been involved in hill walking retreats at Dhanakosa since 2017. She joined the community at Dhanakosa in June 2020 to pursue her love of the elemental wilds in relation to her Buddhist practice more fully.
Regulars - Triratna
These retreats are for people who are already practising within the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community. Previous experience of the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditations and of the Sevenfold Puja will be assumed.
This is a low time commitment online retreat from Dhanakosa to help us discover how we can use the five skandhas as a reflection scheme in everyday life. It will take a practical and accessible look at this traditional list, reflection on which is said to lead to awakening.
The retreat will have two sessions a day; a morning session (10 – 11.30am) for a short presentation on the days topic and a led reflection, and then an evening session (7.30-8.45pm) to explore the topic together and have the opportunity to meditate together as a retreat group for those who can. The morning session will be recorded and posted so people unable to attend will be able to catch up and still participate in the evening discussion. The retreat will run from 7.30pm on Saturday 13th March and finish at 12.30am on Thursday 18th March. More information and a detailed programme read the retreat information sheet.
Doing an online retreat, you'll be engaging on the retreat within the unique conditions of your day to day life. In order to get the most out of the retreat, we ask you attend as much of the programme as possible. Ahead of the retreat we encourage you to spend some time thinking about how you can create supportive conditions for practice within your day to day environment.
