Vajra Sheilin solitary retreat hut

The sheilin is available on a weekly basis running from Friday to Friday. One or two weeks at a time can be booked, and this is an excellent facility for those new to solitary retreats. If you have experience with solitary retreat and are looking for a stay of a month or longer, check out our bothy.

If you are in an emotionally vulnerable state or have physical or mental health problems a solitary retreat may not be appropriate for you. If you have any concerns about this you can discuss it with a member of our team.

Covid-19 update: We ask that people staying in the Sheilin take a lateral flow test on the day they start their retreat, before they arrive at Dhanakosa. Please show us proof of your negative result on arrival. We also ask that you take another test if you suspect symptoms during your stay, so you can be confident you are returning home without Covid and we can safely prepare the cabin for the next retreatant.

location

The sheilin is located within Dhanakosa's grounds, about 300 yards from the main building and about 200 feet above the centre overlooking the loch. If needed, we can take your luggage up using our quad bike.

facilities

There is a shower, toilet and cooking facilities, as well as a desk for writing and a small shrine. Additionally there is space for yoga practice - you will need to bring your own yoga kit.

We provide food, bedding, meditation cushions and shrine accessories (candles, incense etc.).

food

We will send you a fresh food list when you book where you can indicate what fresh food you would like from our stocks. We will then have this ready for the start of your retreat. The Sheilin is already stocked with dried foods such as pasta, rice, oats etc. We don’t provide coffee, so if you are a coffee drinker – instant or ground – then please bring your own supplies and cafetiere.

what to bring

You will need to bring your own towel and toiletries and anything else you need that isn't provided.

arrival/leaving times

Please let us know when you will be arriving so that we can arrange for someone to take your luggage up. Please try to arrive between 3.30 and 5pm and if possible no later than 6pm.

Please leave by 9.30am on the last day.
